Refurbishment at Micklefield Community Centre given go-ahead thanks to £57,245.86 Biffa Award Grant.

Micklefield Community Centre which has served the residents of Micklefield for the past 34 years has secured a £57,245.86 grant from Biffa Award; a multi-million pound fund that helps to build communities and transform lives through awarding grants to community and environmental projects across the UK, as part of the Government’s Landfill Communities Fund. The grant will be used to refurbish the Centre’s kitchen and toilet facilities.

Vice Chair Ian Morton said “I am delighted that we have been able to work with Marsh & Micklefield Big Local to secure this important funding from Biffa Award. This refurbishment will revitalise the Community Centre, bringing the facilities up to date and providing a better experience for our users. It will help us to achieve our goal of being the first choice event venue for hiring by Micklefield residents, helping to secure our long term viability and give Micklefield residents a Community Centre they can really be proud of again.”

Rachel Maidment, Biffa Award Grants Manager, said: “It is so important that we continue to invest in community buildings which are at the heart of their communities. Supporting the project to refurbish the toilets and kitchen at Micklefield Community Centre will ensure that the community has a fit for purpose building to use for years to come.”

The work is due to commence at the beginning of November and be completed by March 2024.

A big thank you to all those who supported us with our grant application including our regular users, members, volunteers, local Councillors, Marsh & Micklefield Big Local, Wrights Meadow Centre and the team at Biffa Award.
